EDUCATION

Equitable Education

Our children have a right to have equal access to quality education. However, education has become a commodity to be bought and sold. Children whose parents cannot afford private education or to move across state lines for better schools should not have to have their futures jeopardized by sub-par education. Every child deserves a quality education, and I plan fight for those children's futures.

I have been working in education for 14 years, and in that time I have watched children miss out on educational opportunities due to lack of funding in their schools and lack of supportive resources. As our public is better educated, our economy improves and our communities our safer. Good education also creates more opportunities for young people as they enter our workforce. As your State Representative, I vow to fight for equitable education for all students to ensure that every child has their best chance at a good future.

ECONOMY

Secure Economy

Unemployment, homelessness, and crime are all problems that our tied to our economy. Creating jobs, supporting organizations that help people find homes and employment, and helping our local and family owned businesses, are all important steps to stimulating our economy and creating secure futures for Missouri families.

As long as the poorest of us continue to suffer, we all will continue to suffer. I promise to work hard to help to create jobs by attracting new employers, working together with unions, fighting for maternity leave for mothers, and subsidizing green projects, as well as working to support the local business that hold our neighborhood together.

HEALTHCARE

Medicaid Expansion

Health care should be considered a human right, yet it is treated as a privilege. Every adult and child deserves access to quality health care and clean facilities. As the cost of health care continues to rise and insurance is tied to full time jobs, those of us who cannot afford quality health care continue to suffer long term health problems and even death.

The Affordable Care Act was a step in the right direction, yet some people remain marginalized as employers offer rudimentary insurance plans at still unaffordable rates. Missouri needs to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

ENVIRONMENT

Sustainability

We have a duty to ourselves and our community to maintain a safe and clean environment. As urban farming has become more prominent in our city and public transportation initiatives have been realized, it is more clear than ever that Missourians have a commitment to our sustainable environment.

I promise to help continue this trend by supporting green job initiatives and promoting livable urban environments. Caring for our environment is essential to a healthy community.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Social Justice

Now more than ever, our nation is experiencing the importance of fighting for civil rights and social justice. Though we’ve made great strides in civil rights over the last few decades, and even within past few years, we have a long way to go. By addressing the problems with revolving-door prisons, the failed War on Drugs, the treatment of rape and domestic violence victims, and our lack of protection of LGBTQ people in the workplace, we can further the cause for social justice in our state.

These issues along with the ever-present fight for immigration reform, fair housing, and fair employment, we can work together for an equitable and just society.
